

The recipe can be traced back to at least 1916, when it appeared in Hugo Enslinn’s book “Recipes for Mixed Drinks” as the South Side Fizz. His version called for gin, lemon and lime juices, sugar, mint and club soda. Lose the bubbles and cull one of the citrus fruits, and you get the South Side as we know it today.

Ingredients
60ml N.I.P RARE DRY GIN
20ml Fresh lime juice
20ml Simple (1:1) syrup
10 Mint leaves
Glassware: Coupe / Nick & Nora
Garnish: Mint leaf
Ice: None
Method: Muddled and shaken
Serve
Muddle mint leaves with all ingredients.
Shake with ice and fine strain into coupe / Nick & Nora glass.
Garnish with mint leaf.

45ml N.I.P RARE DRY GIN
25ml Citrus (1:1 lemon and lime juice)
20ml Simple Syrup
6 slices Cucumber
7 leaves Basil
Glassware: Coupe / Nick & Nora
Garnish: Cucumber slice or basil leaf
Ice: None
Method: Muddled and shaken
Serve
Muddle cucumber and basil in shaker together with other ingredients.
Shake with ice and fine strain into coupe / Nick & Nora glass.
Garnish and serve.
